Schema markup questions, answered.

What is JSON-LD?

JSON-LD is a block of structured data placed in a page. It tells search engines what the page is about, such as a business with an address and opening hours, an article with an author, or a product with a price.

Which schema type should I use for my business?

Use LocalBusiness, or its closest subtype, if customers visit you or you serve a specific area. Use Organization for a company without a physical location. Keep the details identical to your Google Business Profile.

Does schema markup improve my rankings?

Not directly. It helps search engines understand a page and can make it eligible for rich results, which often earn more clicks. Rich results are never guaranteed.

Where do I paste the code?

Into the head of the page it describes, a Custom HTML block, or the custom schema box of an SEO plugin such as Yoast, Rank Math or All in One SEO. Add each type only to the page that matches it.

Will this clash with my SEO plugin?

Plugins often print their own Organization or WebSite schema. Avoid adding the same type twice to one page, and check the page with Google's Rich Results Test after you add the code.

Does Google still show FAQ rich results?

Since 2023 Google shows them only for a limited set of well-known government and health sites. The markup is still valid and describes your content clearly, but do not expect expandable FAQs in results.
